The 60 Minutes program showed a humbled, quiet Michael Vick apologizing again and again for his dogfighting operation. He seems sincere, but only his actions over the next months will prove if he is or not.
But it’s alarming to see Wayne Pacelle of the Humane Society of the U.S. sitting next to him, pulling the publicity surrounding Vick into the HSUS sphere. Taking the spotlight is something HSUS does well and often.
Putting a stop to dogfighting is something every dog lover can agree is a good thing. We are all on that bandwagon. Everyone is against dogfighting, the American Kennel Club, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, your local dog shelter, and HSUS, who, in spite of their name, have nothing to do with your local dog shelter. They don’t have a shelter, and they don’t give the millions of dollars they raise each year to animal care.
They are a political organization. Their money goes to advertising. Most of the pet owners who donate to HSUS do not realize that, like PETA, their long-term goal is to end pet ownership.
Wayne Pacelle has said in interviews that a country with no pets would be a good thing. He jumps on a lot of bandwagons to get in the public eye, knowing that if he gets people on his side, he will be able to get through legislation aimed at his long-term agenda of no pets for anybody. “All pet ownership is slavery,” is the organization’s maxim.
Is Michael Vick also opposed to pet owning? We don’t know. Right now, he has no choice of companions. He is ordered by the court to educate youth against dogfighting. Only HSUS and PETA have the kind of money to mount big educational campaigns.
The video clip shows a high school auditorium gathering at which Pacelle introduces Vick. Vick encourages the teenagers to, “Love your animals.”
What will Michael do one day in the future, when he discovers that HSUS true goal is to eliminate all pet animals? Maybe he’ll abandon them and go his own way, as Betty White, a true animal lover, did when she became uncomfortable with the similar radical goals of PETA.
“I’m going to let my actions speak louder than words,” Vick said.
We’ll all be listening.

And we will be watching VERY closely, too,Michael!
I have carefully followed and thoroughly investigated the initial HSUS claim requesting monies for Vick's dogs which immediately followed the dogfighting bust. HSUS told everyone who would listen that these dogs were in their care, custody, and control. Nothing could be further from the truth. However, monies rolled in to HSUS coffers.
HSUS was called on the rug for this and had to immediately change their campaign pitch. In the tiniest of print, they wrote that monies may be used for their other campaigns.
The next HSUS action was that they insisted to anyone that would listen that all of the dogs needed to be destroyed. Death to Vick's dogs when they were no longer considered evidence.
Wayne Pacelle is quite a clever vegan cookie, wouldn't you say? He has found a way to ride Vick's coat tails in a cozy fashion.
The ASPCA was first approached by Vick's PR people. Thankfully, the ASPCA has just released a statement informing why they will NOT work with Vick!!!
The HSUS was responsible for getting VIck put behind bars, and is working with him so that other dogs may not have to go through what his dogs did. Vick was required to pay 1 million dollars for the care of his dogs, and the money raised went to the 'end dog fighting ' campaign. It is clear from the website that while the HSUS does run several animal care facilities, they are not affiliated with your local shelter. Anyone can see that in the FAQ section of their website. With regards to pet ownership, I can tell you as an employee of the HSUS they promote responsible pet ownership, the pets for life campaign is just one example. They like pets so much that we are allowed to bring our dogs to work, and are part of a 3 year ad campaign with Maddie's Fund and the Ad council to promote adopting a pet from the shelter. You can see more at hsus.org/pets/pet_care/our_pets_for_life_program/
Sarah, I know that you want to defend your employer, but HSUS does imply in its television ad campaigns that its main mission is to provide rescue and shelter to dogs and cats. Images in these ads are almost exclusively images of dogs and cats being rescued, vetted and sheltered. Furthermore, HSUS benefits financially from the confusion its name suggests.
According to the Washington Post, HSUS's role in the Vick case was that of *assisting* in the investigation. I read that ASPCA and the local humane society played a much larger role in the bust than HSUS, but that the HSUS pr/marketing crew went into overdrive to grab the headlines.
But, what really sticks in my craw is the part where HSUS was raising funds on its website for care of the Vick dogs when HSUS didn't have any of the dogs and was at the same time recommending that they all be euthanized. How moneygrubbing and cynical is that? Thank God for Bad Rap and other groups who saved the dogs, the victims in this ca

Contrary to Pacelle surrogate/liar for hire Sarah, the HSUS was NOT responsible for putting Vick behind bars. That - and other bogus statements - are used to justify taking people's money through deception (theft). Pacelle also lied to and manipulated Maddies Fund in order to join their ad campaign. The Ad Council is aware of their many scandals and long history of unethical and illegal practices and their role will be reduced to avoid embarrassing revelations tainting everyone involved.
Pacelle responds to fact-based criticism by intimidation, nuisance lawsuits and online defenses by staff members such as 22 year old "SarahHSUS." The organization is corrupt beyond repair and will continue to be exposed as such.
Sarah, go back to school or get a real job. You're too young to be a professional hack.
