Hi Pet Law readers.
Owed to my readers
I owe everybody a HUGE apology so, right off the bat, I want to say I'm sorry for disappearing on you. Things got really hectic...and then I had PC problems on top of that.
If you're still stopping by, I want to say thanks for being patient.
If you left (but happen to be peeking in anyway) then I want you to know I completely understand...and I really hope I can win you back.
There should be a law against ___________
Have you ever heard or read, or even seen, something that made your blood boil and wonder why there wasn't a law making such a thing illegal? Nothing in place demanding punishment? I don't know about you, but I certainly have.
An affiliate of the Humane Society of the United States, The Humane Society Legislative Fund, wants to give you a chance to be heard.
The Legislative Fund has recently launched its first-ever "There Oughta Be a Law" contest, in which animal advocates can submit their ideas for humane legislation that should exist but doesn't.
Until October 5th, you can submit your proposed legislation online. A panel of experts will choose the winning submission, which will be announced October 25th at the organization's Party Animal event (a network of house parties held around the country to further animal-friendly causes). The contest winner will receive a trip to Washington, D.C., where he or she will help to lobby for the proposed legislation.
Think about it - you could have a hand in creating a law that gives animals across America a voice to speak out against something that has been ignored.
You CAN make a difference
Now is an important time. Don't think that what you have to say isn't important or can't make a difference. Remember - Every law on the books today started as nothing more than an idea. If you have an idea that could benefit animals then please don't hesitate to click the link and share it.

I am going to put that their ought to be a law against chipping animals with cancer causing chips!!! LOL I doubt it will get anything out of them! ROFL
What a great idea for a contest! I frequently think of all sorts of laws I'd promulgate if I were Queen. :)
Great pic of the White House too, to DC John.
Huoston Legal Issues Examiner
Didn't even know there was a Houston Pet Laws Examiner.
Jennifer, I blame myself for that. I kind of fell off the planet for a little while and let the page just sit there without promoting it at all. Glad you found me :o)
Legal issues? I'll have to stop by and check out your page. I'm into legal issues. I agree that it's a great contest idea. It allows people to interact with the legal process and make a difference...but it has an element of fun too.
Empress, you never know. Send them some info showing that the chips are harmful and bring up the idea, and yours could be the one.
There should be a law against the HSUS. The HSUS has caused the destruction of a lot of dogs and responsible breeders. The HSUS is what makes my blood boil.

There oughtta be a law against the HSUS and other pet law scammers. No organization should be permitted to misappropriate as many funds as the HSUS does without helping animals and still win government approval the way they do.
Lauren, some part of the U.S. government and various local goverments steals everything that they can pry up and is destructive to small business. That's the part that the HSUS uses.
People won't change what they do simply because it's illegal - look at Michael Vick - We need Education, not more Legislation!
H$U$ is a national organization with its hand in your pocket and a knife in your back; no, make that your pet's back...

This is a great opportunity for people to get involved - if you think something needs to change, whether on a local or national level, then submit it as an idea.
There should be a law against people thinking animals have equal or more rights than humans do. The HSUS engages in trickery. They show pictures of chickens that go through natural moulting process (chickens lose their feathers naturally) and pass it off as abuse.
