Something for everyone: Michael Vick dog chew toy

Here's something everyone on both sides of the Michael Vick issue can chew on:  A dog toy that bears a striking resemblance to today's most talked-about  quarterback.

You and your dog can vent all of your anger by chomping on the Vick Dog Chew Toy. (For the humans, please be careful with your teeth).

If you like Michael Vick, buy your pet the toy and schedule a  personal play date with the former and newly-reinstated  NFL star.

The toy's Web site claims it is so popular that it is temporarily sold out.

Although the toy offers a way for animal advocates to blow off steam, in no way does it negate the seriousness of what happened. Vick was was sentenced to in 2007 to 23 months in federal prison and three years of  probation for his role in a dog fighting operation.

The murder and torture of dozens of dogs should not be forgotten, and there is still much debate over whether should be forgiven.

Emotions are still running high over the Philadelphia Eagles' recent decision to sign Vick. The issue is being dissected from every angle, from pro sports to religion and animal rights.

Does Vick deserve a second chance?  For some pet lovers the answer is absolutely not.  Many football fans are taking a more forgiving approach, saying Vick served his punishment and should  be allowed to play ball.  According to ESPN, Vick's two-year contract includes $1.6 million for the first year,  with a second-year option of $5.2 million.

Since walking out of federal prison  in May and walking into a new NFL contract this month, Vick has been working to polish his image. He is partnering with The Humane Society of the United States to help eradicate dog fighting. The pair are pledging to use Vick's experience as a harsh lesson to those involved in or contemplating involvement in dog fighting.

In a written statement, The Humane Society indicated it is neither for nor against Vick's signing with the Philadelphia Eagles. The animal advocacy group did say it hopes Vick will use his new position to speak out against dog fighting and animal cruelty.

There is even hope that Vick will turn himself around and into a poster child of "compassion and empathy to both people and animals."

That remains to be seen.

In the meantime, people have a lot to chew on.

Buying these products IS NOT helping dogs...This toy is ridiculous and just putting money in someones pocket. Probably made in China...with no guarantee of being made with safe materials or paint.
I think a donation of money or a Kong toy(or any normal dog toy) to a LOCAL humane society, rescue or DogTown would be a much better way to help dogs and bring awareness or participate in local fundraisers for dogs.
