In the summer, many of us start planning summer vacations.  It's great to be able to take some much needed time off, and spend time with our families.  Of course, the dog is part of the family, so it would be great to get to take them along.

Here are some tips for a great family vacation for your family:

1.  Book a pet friendly hotelDogfriendly.com has a terrific list of pet friendly hotels, complete with a list of any additional charges or stipulations that may be required for bringing your fuzzy family member along for each hotel.  Dogfriendly.com also lists campgrounds and RV parks that welcome pets.

2. Plan pet-friendly activities for your family and your pet.  Many beaches and parks allow dogs, but you will need to check ahead of time to be sure your four-legged companion is welcome.  Dogfriendly.com has a list of beaches, parks, stores, even outdoor restaurants that welcome your pets.

3. Find a kennel or boarding facility near your vacation spot in case your family chooses an activity that your furry friend is not welcome.  Dogboarding.com has listings for your pet ranging from boarding facilities up to pet resorts.

4. Locate veterinarians near your vacation spot in case of an emergencyInyourarea.net and Dogfriendly.com have listings for emergency veterinarians near your vacation locale.

5. If you would prefer getting away from the city, find a pet friendly cabin.  Ohio Cabin Rentals lists cabins available to share with your fun-loving pet.

With some planning, your vacation will be as fun for your dog as it is for the rest of your family.  And, of course, don't forget to bring the camera!
