The Bradford Union Starke Task Force to Eradicate Drugs, a.k.a. BUSTED, was called out to a residence on a drug related charge. Luise Enrique Martinez, 19, was arrested last Friday on felony possession of marijuana and the possession with the intent to sell as well as fighting or baiting animals. When his home was being searched for the drugs the Task Force found 19 dogs outside in the backyard. The dogs were either chained or just tied up and had been underfed. They all showed signs of fighting with the visible scaring of dog fighting. Mr. Martinez posted a $75,000 bond Sunday and released until his trail for the charges of the case.
The dogs were taken to a local veterinarian to be evaluated and to administer treatments. After the veterinarian’s evaluation this is following update to what has happened to the 19 dogs taken:
- Five of the pit bull/American bull dog mixes had to be euthanized due to their extremely aggressive behavior due to dog fighting
- Four of the Pit/Bulldog mixes will need rehabilitation to be able to be adopted
- A Cur hound mix will need to be rehabilitated due to it being used as a bait dog for the fighting before being able to be adopted
- Two pit/bulldog mix puppies were placed in foster care and will be placed for adoption
- Two smaller mix breed dogs will be released for adoption
- Five small dogs have some special needs that need to be evaluated some more before deciding what to do with them.
