A 76 year old woman living in filth and in horrible conditions was found living with over 52 cats inside her home. There was a worker at the Four Seasons Trailer Park doing routine maintenance when he found a police officer to report a cat problem at one of the sites. Upon arrival at the home, the officers were taken back by the appearance and conditions of the home. It was unlivable for an animal much less for any human.

The officers called the Adult Protective Services to help with the elderly woman. She is now living with some of her family members. The house was covered in trash, feces and just general house stuff. There was trash stuffed into the oven and the oven door shut. The counters were full of debris and there were cat litter boxes on top of one another with cat litter spread all over the floor area where it had not been cleaned. The woman tried but just had too many cats and was completely overwhelmed with her situation.

The officers are afraid that there may still be up to 15 cats still in the trailer hiding. The Humane Society of Elkhart County has taken the cats and is treating them for their conditions. Many are being treated for eye infections, they need to be spayed and neutered and some just a bath. The Humane Society is requesting towels and cat food to help with processing such a large number of cats into their facility. If you are living in the immediate area and can help visit their site for details.
