Surpassing all industry expectations, the bio pic earned some of the weekend's best reviews and audiece reactions. The combination of "New Moon," "The Blind Side and "Precious" accounted for over $180 million of the overall box office total, placing women in control of the weekend.

After reaching the box office stratosphere last weekend, "2012" fell back down to earth with $26.5 million. Now entering its second week, the disaster epic also reached a milestone with its overall total of $108.2 million. Families jetted out to "Planet 51," which debuted with $12.6 million 3,035 locations. The weekend is still in progress. How do you have opening weekend totals, halfway through the weekend? This story is premature. When the film finishes at number one opening weekend totals tomorrow morning, will you retract your story?

The industry works out its box office stories using a system of estimates provided by the studios and other sources. I will not retract the story, just correct the numbers, which sometimes fluctuate higher/lower. The story is not premature as Variety and the trades, as well as other new sources work from the same material and post around the same time I do my piece for Examiner. Thanks for reading, Julie. I appreciate the comment.
