Is 'Avatar' the new "Titanic?" It could only happen to James Cameron.

With 20th Century Fox reporting an estimated Wednesday total of $18.4 million, "Avatar's" new North American cume is a towering $268.8 million in just 13 days of release! Industry pundits report that the film is actually posting an average of $18 million a day.

Fox is maintaining a conservative outlook for the New Year's weekend, predicting a $50 million total, which will propel "Avatar" to the number two grossing film of 2009. Columnist Nikke Finke is also reporting that rival studio execs have confided in her that "Avatar" could hit $335M by the end of the weekend.

Meanwhile, "Avatar's" overseas tally for Wednesday stands $36.9M, down just 6% from Tuesday, propelling it to a foreign total of $525.3 million. All combined, "Avatar" has amassed a global total of $800 million to date, and counting.

I doubt it. The Titanic had women watching it over and over repeatedly, which helped it. Avatar's a good film, but isn't as quite up there to elicit as many repeated viewings.

It might who knows. Titanic did have women seeing it over and over because of the love story. i think avatar has a chance because of the 3d and amazing visuals i think people will see it over and over because of the word of mouth.

Diller, and how do you know it isn't quite ass up there to elicit as many repeated viewings. Look at the current box-office results. Theres no stopping this film right now.. Could be a record third week over 50 million which is definitely amazing and this is just domestic. Worldwide it is pulling the same type of numbers. I have watched it 4 times already and its not because of the special effects.. Its the story, jake and neytiri, pandora and the omaticaya that keeps me coming back and i'm a guy..

Indeed I watched it 3 times already just because of the love story and neytiri is so hot that after the first time i watched the film i wish i was a Na'vi and not human.

I found the movie a little lack luster. It was good visually, however i found the entire story similar to that of "Dances with Wolves," and "Pocahontas." Still I believe in James Cameron's works, and despite being a tyrant on the set, he knows what he is doing. Which is why the film is where it is at now.
