A 'Grindhouse' fave has found a new home at 20th Century Fox. Get ready for 'Machete' to cut through cinemas soon. Meanwhile, director Robert Rodriguez also scored a pretty sweet deal for himself in the process.
Despite his long-standing history with Miramax and The Weinstein Company, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez is taking his brand of movie cool to 20th Century Fox thanks to "Machete." Fox beat out the majors for the rights to Rodriguez's latest effort, based on the infamous "trailer" that was part of the "Grindhouse" double feature created with Quentin Tarantino.
Rodriguez, who opted to make the full-length version of "Machete" with independent financing, had been shopping the project around after the hit-deprived TWC opted not to distribute the project. Fox, which is currently making the Rodriguez-penned "Predators," also signed the filmmaker to a major production deal.
Written and directed by Rodriguez, "Machete" stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan and Danny Trejo in the title role.
