In the past, coupons for as much as 80 percent off the price of a product or service were rare. Maybe even nonexistent. But with the advent of “Deal of the Day” Web sites a year ago, they have become – as the name would suggest – a daily occurrence.
These sites have been springing up and gaining popularity in Chicago and around the country since the debut of Groupon.com in November 2008. Thanks to the dismal economy and easy online access, frugality and deal-seeking have reached a new level of trendiness, with thousands of consumers taking advantage of the savings.
In addition to Groupon.com and competitors like DailyDeals.net, the newest Deal of the Day site in the Chicago market is called ChitownDeals.com, which – at only two weeks old – already boasts a following of nearly 10,000.
ChitownDeals.com follows the same concept that drives other Deal of the Day sites, which feature local businesses offering deep discounts on specific products or services. Each day, consumers can sign up for the featured deal, and only if the number of people opting in reaches a certain tipping point will everyone get the discount.
Today’s deal on ChitownDeals.com: Spend $25 and receive a voucher for $50 at Nia Restaurant – which boils down to a 50 percent discount on your meal. Not bad, especially if you were thinking about trying Nia in the first place. The voucher expires after a year.
Zima Studios, the company behind ChitownDeals.com, is also planning to launch two more Web sites in coming months aimed at saving Chicagoans money.

This is awesome. I love both Groupon and Chitown Deals. I think that the chibucks is a great tool for all chitowndeals.com users.
