Is this the end of America?

Every once in a while I come across an editorial that is so spot on that I just have to share it with you.

This one was sent to me by publisher this morning. It originally appeared in The National Post, a Canadian daily.

It is a piece by Terence Corcoran entitled: Is this end of America?

“Helicopter Ben Bernanke’s Federal Reserve is dropping trillions of fresh paper dollars on the world economy, the President of the United States is cracking jokes on late night comedy shows, his energy minister is threatening a trade war over carbon emissions, his treasury secretary is dithering over a banking reform program amid rising concerns over his competence and a monumentally dysfunctional U.S. Congress is launching another public jihad against corporations and bankers.

As an aghast world — from China to Chicago and Chihuahua — watches, the circus-like U.S. political system seems to be declining into near chaos. Through it all, stock and financial markets are paralyzed. The more the policy regime does, the worse the outlook gets. The multi-ringed spectacle raises a disturbing question in many minds: Is this the end of America?

Probably not, if only because there are good reasons for optimism. The U.S. economy has pulled out of self-destructive political spirals in the past, spurred on by its business class and corporate leaders, the profit-making and market-creating people who rose above the political turmoil to once again lift the world out of financial crisis. It’s happened many times before, except for once, when it took 20 years to rise out of the Great Depression.

Past success, however, is no guarantee of future recovery, especially now when there are daily disasters and new indicators of political breakdown. All developments are not disasters in themselves. The AIG bonus firestorm is a diversion from real issues , but it puts the ghastly political classes who make U.S. law on display for what they are: ageing self-serving demagogues who have spent decades warping the U.S. political system for their own ends. We see the system up close, law-making that is riddled with slapdash, incompetence and gamesmanship.”

Of course, those are just the first four paragraphs and I encourage you to read the rest of the story by clicking the link.

Meanwhile, I’m interested in what the rest of you think about this story’s title. Is the author correct? Is this the end of America?

Let me know what you think.

Is this the end of America? I have never seen or imagined such pouting and rage over the fact that a black man has earned a position of authority. And quite frankly, that's what this is all about. Nothing more. Nothing less.

And another thing. The Republicans were in office for eight years and via their numerous wars, drove this economy into the toilet.

Why wasn't it the "end of America" when Bush was pushing us further into debt?

Idiots! When are you going to wake up? Did Bush put us Trillions and Trillions in debt? Our great grandkids will be paying this debt! I am neither a republican or democrat, I am a us citizen that is watching small business be decapitated and tax after tax after tax being implemented. It has nothing to do with having a black president, this mess is the responsibility of all the government. And when everyone touts the evils of Bush, remember, Obama was a senator and so was half the other people in office now. We are going to be in even more trouble because of all the freebies this administration is giving out while expecting the people who create jobs to support it. How fair is it that the top 5% pay for everyone else? The time in America where people took pride in earning things for themselves and "making it" is quickly vanishing and the land of freebies is here. Black? I could care less what color he is.

My personal opinion in any case really does not matter.
The facts presented in secular history and currently for public viewing would leave any knowledgable thinking person with no choice but to say the unmentionable is inevitable with nothing less than a miracle to avoid it.
Since secular minded people do not subscribe to such things what do you think is the answer.
The current situation world wide seems to indicate and give evidence that a pychopath or psychpaths are more likely in charge of world political activities judging the mess the world finds itself in.
And all of this secular activity also seems to have the backing of not all but a close 99 percentile of mainstream Religion.
Not unlike what we see happening in Iran as typical of most secular Governments at least in principal of operation.
Please show me where this is not true.
