Falcon Theatre enjoys some mature love, Feb. 19-March 6

As part of its 20th Anniversary Season, Falcon Theatre will reprise its inaugural effort, Christopher Durang's "Beyond Therapy,"a comedy play about the absurdities of relationships and personals ads.

Director Ted Weil admits he never thought Falcon would still exist 20 years later, so he is particularly pleased that the majority of the cast reprise their original roles.

Dave Radtke, Holly Sauerbrunn, Dennis Murphy and Kathie Labanz are all stepping back into their roles, joined by newcomers Thurman Allen and David Levy.

Weil said he can do this because the characters are not that age specific and that the play works well whether the actors are in their 20s or in their 40s.

Radtke believes that the cast may have been too young the first time around to truly understand and have the proper perspective on the characters.

"We all have a better perspective and concept of the complexities of relationships than we did all those years ago," he said. "Our audiences will likely see a funnier show this time around simply because the humor comes more naturally through the characters with a more mature, experienced cast."

Another ironic twist in re-staging "Beyond Therapy" is that in 1989 Weil "updated" the play a bit to bring it into the 1980s. However, he now views it more as a period piece properly set in the 1970s when the concept of the personal ad to find a relationship was a new phenomenon.

  • Beyond Therapy performance dates: February 19, 20, 26, 27, March 5, 6. Falcon Theatre stages all performances at the Monmouth Theater: 636 Monmouth Street, Newport, KY.
