Edinboro 72, Gannon 62: The experience of the defending PSAC champions showed in this battle of two nationally ranked opponents at Hammermill Center in Erie. Despite trailing 18-17 early, Edinboro (13-0, 9-0 PSAC West) took the lead for good mid-way through the first half with a 9-2 run. Gannon (11-2, 8-1) got to within one early in the second half, before eight unanswered Fighting Scots points killed the Golden Knights’ momentum. Edinboro was led by Kiara Brown, who led all scorers with 24 points. Doriyon Glass scored 15 to pace Gannon, while Jen Papich missed a double-double, scoring nine points and grabbing 10 boards.
Indiana (Pa.) 62, California (Pa.) 43: Good news for the Vulcans entering last night’s game at the Kovalchick arena: Amy Johns returned to the lineup after hurting her ankle in the Vulcans loss to West Chester Saturday night. Bad news for the Vulcans: Stephanie Michael, Cal’s top three-point shooter, missed the game with a hand injury. Worse news for the Vulcans: IUP (12-1, 8-1 PSAC West) was coming off their first loss of the season, a 58-55 setback to Millersville. IUP soared to a 23-6 lead midway through the second half thanks to a 19-2 run. Cal (8-5, 5-4) got as close as 35-31 early in the second half, but could get no closer. Johns scored 18 to lead the Vulcans. Sarah Pastorek recorded a double-double (15 points, 18 rebounds) for the Crimson Hawks; Pastorek’s 18 boards are a season-high in the PSAC.
Bloomsburg 70, Shippensburg 59: The Huskies avoided the Heiges Field House Hex thanks in part to a 15-0 run early in the second half. Shippensburg (6-7, 3-6 PSAC East) handed Bloomsburg (12-3, 6-3) their lone loss in PSAC East play last season. Four Huskies finished in double figure scoring, led by Kayla Oxenrider (13 points), as they remain tied for first in the PSAC East. Monae Baker (15 points, 14 rebounds) recorded a double-double for the Red Raiders, while the Wert sisters – Dana (21 points) and Shawna (10) accounted for half of Shippensburg’s offense.
West Chester 78, Kutztown 73: At Keystone Hall, the Golden Bears held a 42-36 lead at halftime after shooting 18-for-34 (52.9 percent) from the field in the first half. After Kutztown (4-11, 2-7 PSAC East) took a 57-48 lead with 12:57 left, the Golden Rams went on a decisive 15-0 run, including a pair of go-ahead threes by Jillian Keefer to take the lead for good. Allison Hostetter led West Chester (10-3, 6-3) with 21 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Ambreelinne Ortman added 17. Avery Hodgson scored 18 for Kutztown, while Andrea Sisson added 17.
Mercyhurst 55, Clarion 46: A back-and-forth affair at Tippin Gymnasium saw two ties and eight lead changes before the Lakers took the lead for good after a Kaylee Foster three-pointer with 6:24 left. It was the eighth win in the last nine games for Mercyhurst (8-5, 6-3 PSAC West), who find themselves fourth in the division. Hannah Heeter recorded a double-double (10 points, 12 rebounds) to lead Clarion (4-9, 3-6). Nikki Frederickson scored 15 to lead the Lakers.
Lock Haven 59, Slippery Rock 46: The Bald Eagles closed the first half with a 12-4 run to take a 27-20 lead at Morrow Field House. Slippery Rock (4-9, 1-8 PSAC West) closed to within 34-33 with 15:10 left after an Erinne Cunningham three-pointer. Lock Haven (6-6, 5-4) then went on a 12-2 run to pull away for good. Mahogany Spence led the Bald Eagles with 15 points, while Peaches Nesmith added 13 and Kacie Hershey recorded a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds). Cunningham led The Rock with 14 points.
Mansfield 70, East Stroudsburg 58: At Koehler Field House, Mansfield (5-8, 2-7 PSAC East) took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Mallory Moore made it 24-23 with 2:36 left in the first half. East Stroudsburg (5-8, 2-7) stayed within six points of the lead before the Mountaineers pulled away late. Moore led Mansfield with 19 points and nine rebounds. Jessica Martin led all scorers with 23 points in a losing cause for the Warriors.
The Millersville at Cheyney game was postponed due to a water main break and flooding at Cope Hall, Cheyney’s home gym. The game has been rescheduled to Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.
