It is hard to miss Penn State defensive end Jack Crawford, especially on media day when the assembled media are coming up to his shoulders at best. Last year Crawford started to become a player to watch for the Nittany Lions, which leaves him as one of the big names on the defensive line in 2010. A 6'-5" and 271 pounds the junior defensive end is eager to see how the season goes and who emerges as a leader.
Last season Crawford recorded 5.5 sacks and this season he has a goal to lead the defensive linemen in sacks. He also shares a similar goal with many of his teammates, and perhaps every college football player, to improve his abilities on the field.
Penn State's defensive line should be in solid shape with Crawford on one end and Devon Still taking the place of Jared Odrick, who was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft. Still received some high praise from Penn State coach Joe Paterno in his press conference on Thursday and Crawford followed up with his own compliments of Still, who has battled injuries. "One of the biggest players I've ever seen in my life," Crawford remarked about his teammate.
"He's a tremendous player, a tremendous force," Crawford said. "He learned from Jared [Odrick] and he's trying to take it to the next level. He's fast like Jared, strong like Jared so I don't think there's going to be any set-back," Crawford said about the position of defensive end.
