Penn is off to another bad start in men's college basketball. Saturday night the Quakers dropped a 97-94 double-overtime loss to Delaware in non-league play to fall to 0-3. It was the first double-overtime game for Penn since December 28, 2003 when they defeated St. John's 63-61.
This reminds Penn fans of last season when the Quakers lost seven of their first eight games. That team ended up being 10-18.
It was a game that Penn let get away as it led by as many as 18 points in the first half and were up 50-40 at halftime. The Quakers appeared to have the game won after a Zack Rosen lay-up put them ahead 82-80. But Delaware's Hakim McCullar's tip-in at the buzzer forced overtime. Rosen had a career-high 25 points for the Quakers Saturday and led four Quakers in double figures.
Penn missed shots at the end of both overtimes. Malcolm Washington's three-point attempt bounced off the backboard at the end of the second overtime.
Penn's Tyler Bernardini missed the game Saturday because of a foot injury.
Penn hosts Drexel on Tuesday.
