Paul McCartney will perform in Glasgow for the first in 20 years, according to a report today in the Scottish Daily Record. There's been no official announcement of the gig as of yet.
The paper says the date, which will take place this summer, won't be announced for 48 hours, but will take place June 20 in Hampden Park.
"Paul has always loved playing in Glasgow since his early days with The Beatles. He has a great affection for Scotland and his home in Mull of Kintyre in particular," the paper quoted a McCartney associate.
He last played the city on June 23, 1990, at the SECC as part of Glasgow's celebrations as European City of Culture. A scheduled show in Celtic Park in 2003 was canceled.
"There have been a few missed opportunities over the years but Paul is thrilled Hampden is the venue. He loves Scotland and wants to play there again. It will be one of his greatest gigs ever," the associate told the paper.
One interesting note in the story repeats the oft-reported rumor that "Macca's farewell tour will last right up to his 70th birthday," which means McCartney, who'll be 68 this year, could be making his last stops at the upcoming venues on the Up and Coming Tour. Or not.

Not. Don't add fuel to these speculations by the media about a "farewell" tour. Paul said last year that every time he hits the road again, there are news stories about this being his "farewell" tour. Let's not repeat those speculations in the Beatles fan community, we know that's just reporters adding two and two together and coming up with five.
And that story has been the case with the Stones for at least 10 years now. So yeah, it means little, but on the other hand, he's not getting younger either. But it's good that he's still out there. That says more than the rumors.
It really is a shame that people in the news media keep making this stuff up. The same farewell tour story was circulated last year and McCartney said clearly that he wasn't planning on retiring. What amazes is me the fans who fall for this story every time it is re-circulated even when McCartney is clearly and unambiguously saying he has no plans to retire.
I don't believe that Paul will ever ANNOUNCE a Farewell Tour. At some point, he just won't do it anymore. He enjoys performing so much, that I don't think he will ever actually plan to retire. I think he will continue to schedule performances, one at a time, as long as he is healthy and enjoying it -- and if he schedules 3 or more in a row we will call it a tour.
The only thing I want Paul to retire when he hits 70 is his Beatles persona -- the stadium concerts, the Hey Jude sing-a-longs, the Beatles jackets, etc. Much as I love all of that, he's done it enough. I want him to play concerts at small, cozy venues that focus on the wonderful solo work he has produced in the last 10-15 years. I want to hear live songs like Great Day, No Other Baby, English Tea, Too Much Rain, Calico Skies, This Never Happened Before, End of the End, Traveling Light, Sun is Shining, etc., etc.
Yeah, what Jay said for me too.
I am with Jay on this one...How many times can you take Hey Jude, and Let It Be singalongs....Paul should just phone it in....He will probably do Vegas when he turns 80...Give it up!!
Arthur: You completely miss my point. I don't want Paul to ever "give it up." I love his performances and am a huge admirer of his Beatles songs. All I'm saying is that I would like to see a concert of Paul purely doing his solo work.
Clearly you aren't a Paul fan, so why are you on this site? Other than to be a hater?
