As part of looking into the rumors of the Paul McCartney concerts in Brazil that we wrote about on our Beatles Examiner site, we contacted Paul McCartney's spokesman for a comment. The reply we received was straightforward: "There are no live dates in place yet at all."
Meanwhile, in doing a little looking around, we were surprised to find the extent of the rumors posted online. Most of these are not new and, in fact, in some cases are over six months old. As was noted in the comments to our earlier article, rumors about McCartney playing Brazil have been circulating for a while.
The most interesting, though not any more believable, is from no less than the Brazilian website for Rolling Stone magazine. This page has been online since last June. It's in Portugese, but here's a translation (using Google) of the first paragraph:
Paul McCartney will include Brazil in it will probably be the last megaturnê of his career, the second column in the magazine Lauro Jardim See. Will, in principle, two shows in April 2010: one in Sao Paulo and Brasilia - this to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the nation's capital.
The page has some information that shows it's now outdated, including a statement that "The new tour will cover 100 cities in the world and should be extended for two years". That has since been proven wrong, since McCartney has only been playing short tours covering only a few cities at a time.
The Brazilian Rolling Stone site mentions SongKick.com, a British ticket site, where five concerts are listed between February and June, an incredibly long stretch. The dates are Feb. 26 at Praça Da Baleia at Rio Das Ostras, Brazil; April 16 at Maracana Stadium in Rio De Janeiro; April 18 at Morumbi Stadium in São Paulo, Brazil; April 21 at Esplanada dos Ministérios in Brasilia; and a second one in São Paulo at Estádio Marcelo Stefani on June 12. However, it looks like anyone could have added them. (The site asks users to list concerts they know about that the site doesn't.) Pollstar, which is a reputable listing for concerts, for example, does not show any McCartney concerts for Morumbi Stadium.
The translation of another link by Lauro Jadim of Vega.com seems to say that negotiations to bring Paul McCartney to Brasilia were unsuccessful. It also would confirm that that particular SongKick listing is, at the moment, basically someone's imagination. It's probably not the only listing that's just a rumor.

Thanks for being in the know, Steve!
Hmm, so maybe Brazil is not true, but what happened to that Best Buy rewards members contest where Best Buy was going to send the winner to an all expenses paid trip to a Paul show in 2010... They were supposed to announce the winner January 8, but so far there doesn't seem to be any info about it.
The Lauro Jardim item *does* say that the negotiations were unsuccessful, but it is possible that Paul plays São Paulo in April (there are some colloquial expressions in portuguese that make the automatic translation unclear).
Key word: "yet"
