From June 1, 2009 until June 8, 2009, New York City will be holding a festival of events to salute New York's thriving Internet industry. Internet Week New York is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences in cooperation with the City of New York and The Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting.
The great part about Internet Week New York is that it is open to anybody. Some events are free, some have a cost, as they are all run by different sponsors. There is no sign up for Internet Week as a whole but many events require an RSVP. Just check the schedule and click on any event that you are interested in going to and you will find all of the details.
As a parent of teens, I signed up for a free panel called "Beyond Facebook: How will today's students use the web of tomorrow". This event is run by the website Finding Dulcinea: Librarian of the Internet. Many of the events are related to digital media, social networks and film.
I attended a few events during Internet Week New York 2008 and had a great time, learned new things and met many interesting people. Events are scheduled during the day and night, so give it a try.
