On March 17th our entire community as well as the nation was shocked to hear of the brutal beating of 15 year-old Josie Ratley by another teen that had never meet her prior this attack. Wayne Treacy, who is accused of this savage beating, is being charged as an adult and recently pleaded not guilty.
Just today it was reported by the Miami Herald that Josie Ratley was removed from the intensive care unit at Chris Evert Children's Hospital at Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and has entered rehabilitation center on Tuesday, April 27th.
After a very being in a medically induced coma for a length of time, Josie is beating the odds and is a true survivor as she enters into the difficult phase of rehab. On Easter Day, Josie woke up for the first time since March 17th. After 3 surgeries on her brain, she is bravely facing this horrific ordeal.
The outpouring of support has been overwhelming. The community of South Florida as well as people all over the world have shared their support and prayers. With nearly 2000 supporters on a Facebook Group set up for the family, Pray for Josie Lou Ratley, is an example of the love and generosity people are sharing.
There have been many fundraisers throughout the community. The most recent was last Sunday, "Walk for Josie" which raised over $10,000.00 with hundreds of participants. This was a massive turnout and an example the support and love that Ratley family has.
In rehab, her treatment will include occupational, physical and speech therapies, according to the family attorney.
