Many mothers of multiples find both income and satisfaction from home-based businesses. Candy Kunesh, an instructor for Cake 'N Crumbs is no exception. Candy's twin boys, Robin and Jay, will be one in February. In addition, she has a three-year old daughter named Wren. Putting the three children in daycare was unaffordable for the family, so she turned her energies to something she'd always enjoyed. “It's a creative outlet for me. It's how I relieve stress, plus it's nice to get out of the house. It also provides me with adult contact.”
Kunesh will be instructing members of the Green Bay Area Mothers of Multiples in the fine art of cake decorating at its monthly meeting, Thursday, November 5th at 7 p.m. at New Hope Methodist church in De Pere. Attendees are asked to bring a variety of items in order to participate or they can just observe, if desired. Kunesh says, “I really enjoy watching people succeed at their decorating projects. You can see the look on their faces as they transition from I can't do this to, this is so cool. I can do this.”
Kunesh is one of four instructors based in Wisconsin. “The company operates much like other direct sales types of businesses where there's a hostess for an in-home party or class.” As instructor, her role is to show people how to use the company's supplies and ingredients to make edible, decorative creations including cake, candy and cookies. At the end of the event, attendees can take their creations home.
Toward the end of her pregnancy with the twins, Candy took a leave from the business. Now that they're on the threshold of being a year old, she recently returned to it. Kunesh says, “It's a passion of mine.” How does she juggle some aspects of the business while caring for the kids? “When they go down for a nap.” In addition to traditional home-based parties, Kunesh also does parties for Girl Scout troops and birthdays.
