Based on the feature film of the same name, NBC’s drama “The Parenthood” follows the lives of members of different branches of the same family and focuses on the challenges of parenting in a modern era characterized by cell phones, mp3 players and social networking.
Kudos to NBC for featuring a show about a real and dysfunctional family, that faces so many of the same issues that today’s parents face.
This large, very colorful and imperfect Braverman family is made up of Peter Krause, Lauren Graham, Monica Potter, Craig T. Nelson, Bonnie Bedelia, Dax Shepard, Erika Christensen and Mae Whitman.
Just like real life, “The Parenthood” deals with a financially strapped single mother of two teens who is forced to move back home with her parents, a larger-than-life, headstrong father and pillar-of-strength mother, a mother who is a corporate attorney with her stay-at-home husband who also deal with their marriage issues, a commitment-phobic man who suddenly finds himself as a father, and a father who is forced to relinquish his preconceived expectations about what constitutes a "normal" family when he, his wife and their teenage daughter learn that their eccentric son and little brother, is diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome.
This family is there to help each other pick up the pieces and focus on the everyday challenges that families face while raising children and starting over.
Just like Real Life!
