What’s the one thing Wichita parents can count on this summer?
Their kids will be outside in the heat and at risk for dehydration. If June’s high temperatures are any indication, this summer should be an especially hot one so every parent needs to be armed with the right information to keep their children safe and sound.
Dehydration in children, if left untreated, could cause the following health problems:
• Heat cramps
• Heat exhaustion
• Heat stroke
Severe dehydration could even be fatal.
That is not a pretty picture for something that is preventable and dehydration is 100% preventable. A few simple steps can keep kids well hydrated and doing what they do best…having fun.
The Sedgwick County EMS web page has information on dehydration and heat stroke symptoms. In addition, here are a few sites that teach parents how to keep their kids well hydrated.
