This summer, the Patel Conservatory at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center (www.tampacenter.com) is offering over 70 camps and courses for pre-K kids to adults. Whether you or your child like to act, dance, or play a musical instrument, there is bound to be a program for you.
Here are some of the programs offered:
For Pre-K kids and kids in grades 1-9 there is the Arts Samplers course. This course is designed to inspire kid's imaginations by using drama like activities and games to encourage self-expression and development of social skills. Kids listen to stories and then dramatize their own stories with props, masks and puppets they create.
Kids in grades 2-5 and 6-12 can take advantage of the Musical Theater Camp. Students will learn about musical theater by viewing videos of great musical theater talents. Students will then develop their own singing, dancing, and acting skills talents.
Kids in grades 6-12 can participate in Specialty Camps. SummerPlay: A Social Issue Theater Project encourages students to tackle teen issues by expressing their thoughts in theatrical performance. Kids in grades in 3-5 can participate in SummerPlay Jr: An Introduction in Playmaking. For those older, grades 9-College can take participate in Make Your Own Musical.

Adults can also get in on the fun by participating in a variety of dancing, theater, media arts, and music courses.

We are lucky in Tampa to have so many great camps. Spots are filling up at the Patel Conservatory, but the Rock and Roll camp for 5th to 8th graders is about half full, and many others still have room. Art samplers are a great way to introduce children to all forms of performing arts.
