Parents in the St. Louis area may have received a disturbing automated phone call from Sam's Club today. The call was a courtesy to let past purchasers of Concentrated Tylenol Infants' Drops know that a voluntary recall had been issued for this product. Good to know, but highly disturbing given that a teething baby can blow through a bottle in no time and chances are good that a long-ago purchased bottle has been entirely ingested. Listeners were directed to McNeil Consumer Healthcare (the makers of Tylenol) for more information.
The McNeil customer service representative stated that this was
a voluntary warehouse and distribution recall after consultation with the FDA regarding an inactive raw material."
The representative gave assurances that any finished products in the home had met product specifications and are unaffected. What the representative couldn't adequately answer is how finished product in the home differs from finished product at a warehouse or distribution site? By calling 1-800-644-4884 or 1-800-962-5357 you can speak to a McNeil customer service representative that will check the UPC or lot numbers of any Tylenol products you currently have. They will also mail you a list of UPCs that were involved in the recall. At press time, there was no information on the Tylenol/McNeil website, but a post on Strollerderby gives a list of UPCs and an article on EmaxHealth links to the McNeil corporate letter that was sent to healthcare professionals regarding the recall.
