Karen Deerwester's wonderful book -
"The entitlement-Free CHILD" is a must for all parents
Any parent can tell you that kids often suffer from a “me, me, me ” condition which is frequently accompanied with the dreaded “I want it NOW” side effect .I know I am not alone is saying that this horrible affliction has reached an epidemic state and that parents need to find a way to control it.
Luckily, Karen Deerwester is here to help with her outstanding new book, The Entitlement-Free Child: The book explores easy to incorporate solutions (and attitudes) parents can use to raise happy, well adjusted children while avoiding the “me, mine, now" mindset.
The Entitlement-Free Child. is very straightforward making it extremely easy to follow and allowing parents see quick results. Each situation is written out followed by an explanation of the entitlement issues and the entitlement-free perspective. Deerwester then goes over specific strategies that parents can immediately start using.
The book is so great that mine has been passed around from friend to friend to friend with every one of them giving it their highest rating! The funny thing is that while all of us found different areas the most valuable, all of us loved one specific line. In the section where Deerwester is talking about birthday parties she writes, “Children’s birthday parties are not mandatory business obligations”:
How many of us have felt pressured into inviting the whole class or a neighbor or someone in your child’s swimming lessons even though your child isn’t friends with them? Or, had to reason with a child that they need to go to a party because they were invited, or the whole class is going or they’re our neighbors and so you should go? But Deerwester is right, why should a birthday party list, or attendance, ever turn into an obligation?
I really can’t say enough positive things about this wonderful book! I have read dozens of parenting books and I feel that The Entitlement-Free Child. is hands down the best parent resource book around.
Examiner is lucky to have Karen Deerwester as a parenting examiner where you can read more of her wonderful parenting articles.
