Madonna to adopt Mercy after all: did money help overturn the decision?

Madonna gets Mercy after all
Should Madonna be able to adopt
Mercy even though the courts said no?

Let’s see, first Madonna was rightfully turned down from adopting Mercy James. The Malawi court requires that adoptive parents reside there for at least 18 months before adopting. Therefore, they ruled against the adoption stating, "A person is not entitled to claim to be a resident of a given town simply because he pays a short, temporary visit, some expectation of continuity is a vital factor." And since obviously, Madonna was not going to move to Malawi, that was the end of that, right? No.

In steps Madonna’s bankroll team of lawyers with an attempt to buy change the courts mind. Meanwhile Madonna began pouring thousands of dollars into Malawi, including building a day care center.

This appears to be enough because it has been reported that two of the three needed judges (to reverse the court’s ruling) have already signed the paperwork recommending the adoption with the understanding the third will do so today.

If this goes as planned, Mercy will be able to leave the country with Madonna and start her new life. Is this a good thing? On one hand, yes, the child will have a chance at a life filled with endless possibilities but on the other hand, it will always be a tainted adoption.

But, what does this say about Madonna? Is she just a Mom who wants to give Mercy a better life or, that her money will buy her whatever she wants? And what does this say about the Malawi court system?  That their rulings can be overturned by compassion or, that they can be overturned by American dollars?

This is so aburd! Madonna bought this little girl and now all of us real adoptive parents and all of our struggles are meaningless when we could have just bought them! How sad that this is allowed?

Madonna has been building/supporting orphanages in Malawi for several years. It amazes me how many "journalists" write articles without knowing (or ignoring) the facts. Congratulations Madonna!

Yes Richard she has been buying her way in for awhile but does that entitle her to buy a child? Absolutly not!

this is just another example of ugly americans using their money to buy what they want. Now this child will be forced to watch Madonna go from man to man without any stability other than a mom who wants to be 25 again! what a horrible role model she is!
