In honor of Johnny Appleseed Day here are two easy (and tasty) apple treats to make with your kids.

Cinnamon Apples

6 or 7 apples
1 cup water
1/2 - 3/4 cup red hots candy
2 cup sugar

Peel and core apples and then cut into slices: 4 – 8 per apple. Set aside.

Heat water, sugar and red hots candy in a large saucepan until red hots melt – stirring often.

Lower heat and add apples to syrup, turning frequently to coat well.

Once the apple slices are tender, remove from pan to cool before eating.

Yummy Crockpot Baked Apples

4 -6 apples
1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons raisins (and/or nuts)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons butter or margarine (stick is easiest)
1/2 cup water

Core & peel apples ¾ to 1 inch down

Mix sugar, raisins (and or nuts) and cinnamon.  Fill apples with sugar mixture adding a dot of butter on the tops.

Pour water into bottom of Crockpot adding apples next.

Cook on low 7 to 8 hours

I'm so trying both of these! I loves these and the crock pot idea would make a perfect dessert.

These sound so yummy! I am definitely trying them, probably the crock pot apple recipe first. I love baked apples. Thanks for the tips!
