The Santa Cruz Public Libraries' budget shortfall this year has cut their acquisitions budget for new books to next to nothing. But you can do something to help.
The library has posted their wishlist on their website, so that citizens wanting to help out can get them what they need.
"Ruth Royal just celebrated her 70th birthday," the wishlist page says. "As her present, she asked friends and family to contribute to the Library's Wish List and created a special box for donations. Ruth gave SCPL a $251 gift card from Bookshop Santa Cruz and asked that the money go toward the purchase of kids' books."
The program benefits both our libraries and our local bookstores, which are also suffering from the economic downturn.
