Here's a list of some iPhone Applications that can make life as a new or expecting parent more manageable:
Fertility Calendars:
- Nurtur (by Live Axle LLC) $9.99 - A fertility calendar that allows you to record your basal temperature and follows the Fertility Awareness Method (FAM) for encouraging pregnancy.

- iPeriod (by Winkpass Creations) $1.99 - Do you remember the date of your last period when the doctor asks? The iPeriod calendar automatically remembers for you as well as predicting the starting day for the next 12 months. Also predicts ovulation and fertility (optional) while you keep track of your PMS symptoms (weight, energy levels, etc).
- 9-Toolbox (by e2ndesign) FREE - Not only does this have a discreet calendar to keep track of your monthly period and predicted dates of fertility, but there are 8 other applications, some of which might be more helpful than others, such as the Tip Calculator and Units of Measure.
- FemiCycle (by Alpha Salmon) $2.99 - For women wanting to either become pregnant or avoid a possible pregnancy. It also provides a guide to help increase your chances of conceiving a boy or girl.
Pregnancy Guides
- iPregnancy (by Gregory P. Moore, MD) $2.99 - As seen in the May 2009 issue of PARENTS magazine, this application helps you monitor your pregnancy once you enter your expected due date. Learn about the gestational progress from week-to-week, time remaining until your due date and images of what your baby looks like during the current stage.
- Pregnancy Kick Counter (by Ethan Productions) FREE - Provided free of charge by A Small Victory (a non-profit that gives out loss kits to those who have lost a child due to miscarriage or stillbirth), this application allows you to keep track of your baby's movements in utero and alerts you if there is a cause for concern. They recommend that you track the baby's movement at the same time each day for accuracy.
- My Pregnancy (by Oscar Martin) $1.99 - A diary for expecting moms and dads, this application tracks emotional milestones and important dates, such as the day you selected the baby's name or found out the sex. Allows you to monitor your cravings, appointment times and the weight of both you and the baby, along with heart rate and other relevant information from your medical visits.
- Pregnancy Calendar (by Triple Creek Studio) $9.99 - This is much more than a calendar and diary all in one, it's an actual pregnancy planner as well since there are places to keep a list of people to contact when the baby comes, what you need to bring with you to the hospital, your birth plan, medical history and who you'd like in the room with you. It also allows you to email notes to loved ones who may be just as excited about the details as Mom and Dad.
- 25,000 Baby Names (by DMBC) FREE - Now, when you're standing in line, sitting in traffic or just lying in bed, you can browse through the thousands of baby names and save your favorites as you study the origin, meaning and popularity of the various names included in this comprehensive list.

We are local SF parents of two little ones (7 months and 23 months) and we also just launched an iPhone app for parents called Baby Brain. Our app was recently featured in Forbes and is getting rave reviews on iTunes.
Baby Brain has received incredible support from professionals across the country that work with parents of newborns: pediatricians, lactation/sleep consultants, (including Day One) doulas, etc. We'd be honored if you might consider checking out Baby Brain!

Hi Sondra,
I am a bit of an iPhone app enthusiast and have tried many many apps. Your fertility list should have definitely included MeFertil, which in my opinion is the best option for those trying to conceive since it actually does the calculations using the correct methodology (Toni Wechsler's Taking Charge of Your Fertility). It has no fancy useless add ons that serve no fertility purpose and the interface is very easy to read. I am a very happy client. The only improvement I would appreciate is password protection.
I am not yet familiar with the pregnancy apps but look forward to reviewing those soon.
Claire
Thanks, ladies, for suggesting these apps!
