Just to start you off, and get you excited about this book, let me tell you what it can do. I had a room full of preschoolers (very preschoolers, like three and under). I somehow managed to get them all sitting on the floor in front of me and ready for the story. I opened the book and started to read. I had their rapt attention. They loved the book. And I know, sadly, that it wasn't just my magnetic personality and storytelling skills, because the first book I tried was a disaster.
The book is called All You Need for a Snowman by Alice Schertle, and illustrated by Barbara Lavallee.
So, on to the review. This book is so fun. The pictures are great. The story is engaging, and the rhythm of the words move you right along.
"One small snowflake fluttering down-- that's all you need for a snowman. EXCEPT two more snowflakes...three flakes...four...five...six...seven thousand...eight million more..." and on it goes in delightful rhyme.
Out of all the snow and winter books I checked out at the library this year, so far this one is my favorite, especially for the preschool age group. I loved it.
