The 'I Pledge' Obama video that may be shown in some of your children's classrooms along with the President's address is inspiring controversy all over the country. We have information from many schools that will be showing it, many schools that will only be using the President's address and lessons, and a large amount of schools that are either banning the whole thing, or setting up alternative programs for kids if their parents put in writing that they are not to attend the Obama lesson plan.
Parents everywhere are either standing behind Obama's video, or writing letters to school officials asking for alternative choices to be offered, and if not, they will be keeping their children home.
Everyone can feel that the world is on the verge of change. Some praise it, some fear it.
Back to the 'I Pledge' video. It is filled with hoards of celebreties pledging to all do wonderful things such as ending hunger, and not flipping off other drivers any more. The problem is that intertwined in those wonderful messages that will be shown to our children, there are some pretty scary ones such as "I pledge to be a servant to our President". Another disturbing moment is when the celebs talk about health care, like our kids should know the ins and outs of the healthcare program, and need to hear a justification. Pay close attention.

These tiny messages about serving the President are such a small part of the video that most people miss it the first time around.
Chime in parents. You have the facts, the curriculum for all grades has been posted, the plans are in place. Now watch the video before your children may be forced to and form your own opinion. The only variable now is what the President is going to say to them. Let us know if you will have your child participate and why.
The video will make you feel like it's such a good thing, especially when your favorite actor says something wonderful about smiling more, or saving the world. All of those things are great. We should already be teaching these to our children. No matter what your opinion is of Obama's adress to the children, remember that the video is lead and followed by lesson plans. If Obama stayed out of this video, it would be amazing.

Subliminal advertising is what comes to mind. Advancing Stem Cell Research is against many's religious beleifs and doesn't belong here. Too bad they couldn't have kept to the good messages and not added that and serving Obama in there.
I have no problem with people pledging to do good things for others. What I do have a problem with is being a servant to the president. Isn't the president supposed to be our servant?

I have 4 children in school and they will not be watching this..or pledging to be a servant to anybody...let along the president of the united states...last time I checked he was supposed to be serving us...the people...man was I wrong to vote for this man....this video is just plain creepy!!!

I have no problem with people pledging to do positive things for others and our country. What I do have a problem with is being a servant to the president. Isn't the president supposed to be our servant? I am a proud Marine wife, my husband has served his country 20 years, there is no mention of our military whatsoever.
Where on Earth did you get the idea that this will be shown in our children's schools? This is NOT what the White House will be broadcasting on Sept. 8th. This video was made clear back in January, not by Obama or his campaign but independently by a group of Obama supporters. A few days ago it was shown at one school in Farmington, Utah by administrators who hadn't watched it beforehand and misunderstood what it contained (they were looking for something to underscore their theme for the year, service. Obviously they didn't do their due diligence). But that was an isolated incident. There are NO plans to show this video around the country. Please take the time to get your facts straight before you write.

We have survived as a free nation because we pledged our loyalty to the Constitution of the United States. Many of us have taken the oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. A pledge to anyone - Republican, Democrat, Independent, Socialist, or Communist is a move in the wrong direction. There are too many people who seem willing to follow blindly and pledge to a person. This really scares me.

Long ago my parents taught and guided me so that today I have not suffered the drug use/addiction, alcoholism, and other issues that plague some of those on the I Pledge video. I thank my parents for being my role model and not allowing me to follow the path of celebrities and politicians.
Very UNcool video. How about "I pledge to safeguard Americans' rights to think for themselves"? And last time I checked, WE elect the President and his job is to serve US. Liberals and conservatives alike should be very troubled by this video, and NOT let it slide. Unless perhaps the lesson plan that goes with it is a comparison to Orwell's '1984.'
Our schools just sent out a letter saying they would be showing the video along with the address from the guy I regret voting for, and they'll be doing the curriculum.
My children will be on "vacation" that week, because it's not just going to be one day, they're doing all of the projects.

I made sure that my children school was going to show this STUPID video, and I am glad to say that they are not. My reason why I made sure of that because I was glad to pull them out for the day.
I Pledge to do everything within my power to see that Barack Obama is defeated in 2012.

We get such good feelings by watching all these familiar faces - many of which are faces we associate with nobility, with compassion and other wonderful qualities they have portrayed in movie roles.
We agree with what they're saying, feeling more and more solidarity with them, joining them in a movement to do better, to improve ourselves and our community.
Then they start to ask what WE will do ... and our will starts to get motivated, our energy is stirred.
THEN, all this heart, head and will energy gets quickly funnelled into serving the President. ... But if we pull back now, then we would be pulling out of all that good action.
Opposing the "serving Obama" moments feels like opposing all good things.
THAT'S the propaganda.
And, yes. In America we do NOT serve our gov't. We are citizens, NOT subjects. Obama stands ALONGSIDE us, looking up at the ideals in the Constitution.
The makers of this video don't get that. That's what makes it creepy.
After reading all these comments, I realize that this is a -- me, me, me world. I feel sorry for all of you. The video was great and I want to go out and help to make this a better country to live in and not a country to tear down, which most of you seem to want to do. Do most of you even know what you are saying. It seems to me you try to out do the messenger before you. And please all we need is more home schooling, what are you afraid of, your children learning what it like to live with many different people. I bet your afraid to even travel to other countries, to explore other cultures. I feel sorry for you and I feel sorry for my country. I can't wait to vote to Obama AGAIN.

And after all of that, I come home to the USA. I fought for this country, I shed blood for it and am DAMN PROUD I DID. I pledge to this country and the greatest document ever written "The US Constitution". Not to a usurper, that has no history and such a jaded background he is too embarrassed to release any information about it. Maybe you all should read a wonderful essay by John Taylor Gotto called "Against School". You think the school system was designed for education, but according to him ( a teacher for 30 years) it is designed to make our children conform and become mass consumers. It works well. Food for thought, for those of you who can read. I hear a lot of fear mongers. If you are against Obama, why not stand up and author a program that will work instead of complaining. Take responsibility...oh, I guess you're against that because that is what he wants to ask our children to do.
