West Chester's Children Creating Bridges believes that children are the catalyst for change toward a more peaceful world of tolerance, respect and diversity.  Even better, if your child has an idea on how to change the world, the CCB can be a source of support to make his or her dream come true.

"We envision children of different socio-economic classes, races, religions, cultures and nations creating bridges that will enable them to connect to one another," said CCB Director Wendy Keslick. "This will inspire all involved to collectively create a world of tolerance, celebration of diversity, compassion, inter-country and inter-cultural dialogue and respect."

Examples of programs offered by CCB include a Paper Mache Workshop for children five and older, where kids will make their own masks and learn about different cultures. The center also offers a "Journey Through Music" program using Putumayo World Music . The program "spans six continents" and children will be given a passport to remember their adventure.

There is also a book club starting January 28th on "Journey Through Ten Thousand Veils" by Maryam Kabeer Faye, and several meetings for knitters to make warm baby caps for children around the globe.  A calendar of upcoming events is available here.

CCB also has several ongoing international service projects including an Eithopia Outreach Project serving the Enat Alem orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.  The center also focuses on the Iraq refugee crisis in Syria.

In addition, CCB sells fairly-traded products from around the world. Many of these products support specific woman co-ops, family-owned business, etc. They also sell artwork and jewelry created by Iraqi refugees. All of the proceeds from sale of these products go directly to CCB.

In addition, CCB recently raised $1000 for Doctors without Borders for relief efforts in Haiti, and they have a link on their site about making health kits that will be distributed in Haiti by the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Keslick said that the center is also looking for children with great ideas to come forward.

"We want children to let us know what causes are near and dear to their heart, and we will help them create a plan to make a difference, she said.  "We will provide the support to have them reach their goals."
