Award winning soprano Kathy Schmidt said "there is something so magical about a princess surprising a birthday girl." She should know because for the past two years, Kathy has been delighting young royalty throughout Chester County with her entertainment company, Sweet Princess SingAlongs.
"The joy on your daughter's face will be something you treasure forever," she said.
During a Sweet Princess SingAlong, the host can choose from four princesses. Kathy performs a "princess concert" while in costume and character. Children are welcome to sing along to the familiar songs or just enjoy the visit.
Kathy offers three packages ranging from 15 minutes to an hour of "princess time." All packages include music and opportunities for party guests to take pictures. She advises hosts to contact her a month before the event for the best chance of availability. However, she also encourages interested hosts to check her availability even if the party is days away.
"If I am free, I will do everything to accommodate last minute requests," she said.
The inspiration for the business came from Kathy's two loves: singing and princesses.
"When I was younger I used to tell my mom that I was going to be a princess when I grew up! Luckily, it really happened," she said. "I think that every little girl loves the idea of wearing a big, puffy dress and feeling amazing in it!"
She also said that the boys like the bright colors of the costumes and the singing and dancing that goes along with a live princess.
Kathy is also available for other types of kids' parties. "I provide entertainment for MOMS Clubs, classrooms, and any other type of celebratory event that calls for a little royalty and magic!"
While the little guests will be floored by the sight of a real princess, adults will enjoy Kathy's talent. Kathy has been performing since age eight. She has a long list of musical accomplishments including being a featured soloist at the Academy of Music in Philadelphia. She took third place in an international voice competition for CharlotteChurchFans.com and was a top ten finalist in the 2007 Fox 29 News Philly Idol Competition.
When she's not signing princess songs, Kathy enjoys performing music from her favorite vocalist, Sarah Brightman.
"Everything that I ever learned about singing came from listening to recordings of my favorite singer, Sarah Brightman," she said. " I began listening to her when I was in first grade and for my first live performance as a seven year old I sang "Think of Me" from Phantom of the Opera. Sarah Brightman really developed the musical genre called "Classical Crossover" and I would have to say that is my favorite type of music to sing," she said.
