Halloween fun starts long before trick-or-treat night and lasts long after Halloween day, especially with these favorite Halloween books for children. Pumpkins, witches and monsters...oh my!
- The Night Before Halloween by Natasha Wing uses the familiarity of Twas the Night Before Christmas to get children ready for costumes and trick-or-treating. Fun and friendly.
- Five Little Pumpkins by Iris Van Rynbach makes the traditional rhyme dance on the page as the pumpkins join the trick-or-treaters for a night of fun. Always fun to recite with and without the book.
- A Dark, Dark Tale by Ruth Brown is just the right amount of scarey for preschoolers. CIt gets better with every rereading as children come to expect what hides in dark, dark places!
- Boo to a Goose by Mem Fox is a fun rhyming book celebrating the fun of surprising others...but not being too surprised yourself.
- Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberley is the must-have monster book that gives children control over a very scarey night.

These are GREAT books! The 5 Little Pumpkins made me think of another examiner, the Austin Children's Crafts Examiner, Susan Claunch, who posted a totem of 5 little pumpkins!!! It would be fun to have the pumpkins loose to role play the poem! Did you ever see the one about the little old lady... with the boots and the gloves and the hat... ? I can't remember the name of it. That's a fun one to act out too!
