In the freebies for families article series, parents will find some exciting local giveaways! Whether its free toys, books, event tickets, movies, or meals, these hidden deals are abundant locally. This week, take a look at the great summer reading program and free book giveaway sponsored by Barnes & Noble Bookstores.
Bookstore Encourages Youngsters to Read This Summer With Chance for Free Books
Children in grades 1 through 6 are encouraged to read this summer with the 2009 Barnes & Noble Summer Reading Program. For every 8 books completed between May 26, 2009 and September 7, 2009, children can choose a free book from the appropriate book list prepared by the store. The reading challenge will be a wonderful way to keep kids on track with their reading while offering something else that parents love: a great deal!
Reading Journal Keeps Kids Honest
For those interested in taking on this challenge, forms are available online or in local Barnes & Noble stores. The forms contain instructions on how to proceed with the contest, along with a reading log for readers to list the titles, authors, and favorite parts to each story book read. Once 8 books have been read and entered into the log, the forms must then be turned in at the store before the kids can pick out their free books. There is a limit of 2 free books per child (for those ambitious enough to read 16 books), and the program will go on only while supplies last.
A Chance To Win Another Freebie: An Autographed Book
Additionally, for each form turned in, children will be entered into a drawing to win a free autographed copy of the fifth and final book in the immensely popular children's fantasy series Percy Jackson & The Olympians, The Last Olympian, authored by Rick Riordan. (The first book entitled The Lightning Thief is one of the free books available in the store list).
Stay tuned for more "Freebies for families" articles, to be published on Fridays.
