The heat came early to the upstate this summer of 2010. If you're looking for a way to keep the kids cool during the June heat wave, take a look at this list of places to cool off in and around the Greenville area.
Children's Play Fountain at RiverPlace - this free place to play will keep young children giggling as fountains of water spurt from the ground on top of a train tracks painting. From South Main Street, locate High Cotton restaurant and go down the stairs to the right of the restaurant. Walk past the artists studios and the O'Cha Tea bar on the left and spot the water shooting up high, also on the left.
One of Greenville's Three Waterparks: The Greenville area now has three waterparks operated by the Greenville County Recreation District. A coupon for $3 off the regular admission price is on page 28 of The Upstate Parent magazine, free at a variety of locations including Bi-Lo and Bloom grocery stores.
Paris Mountain State Park: This state park located less than twelve miles from downtown Greenville hosts a lake with a roped off swimming area and a wading creek at the Sulphur Springs trailhead.
Westside Aquatic Center: Operated by the Greenville County Recreation District, this indoor pool has open swim on Saturdays from 11am - 2 pm.
Table Rock State Park: Located west of Greenville, Table Rock State Park is in Pickens and has several places on its Carrick Creek Nature Trail where it's safe for children to wade in the creek. As well, this park has a roped off swimming area on Pinnacle Lake.
