Nursing moms and other breastfeeding advocates will gather at the WORD 106.3 radio station building on Garlington Road in Greenville, SC from 9 am - noon on August 2, 2010. Many of the lactating moms will bring their children and nurse in public for a "Nurse In" at the radio station.
The "Nurse In" is part of a nationwide peaceful protest against comments made by radio host Lisa of the Russ and Lisa Show on WORD 106.3, housed in Greenville, SC. Lisa badmouthed public nursing on the radio during the Russ and Lisa Show after witnessing a mom nurse in the Chick-Fil-A restaurant at Cherrydale Point in Greenville.
Although the comments were made at the Greenville, SC radio station, the Russ and Lisa Show is broadcast nationally. "Nurse In" events are also scheduled in Sacramento, Milwaukee, Austin, Portland and Tulsa. Nursing moms, former nursing moms and breastfeeding advocates took strong offense to Lisa's comments and have been speaking out on internet blogs and message boards to raise public awareness and to hopefully get an apologetic reaction from Lisa.
Elizabeth Hitchcock, a mom from Batesville Mississippi decided to organize the "Nurse In" and will be in attendance at the Greenville,SC location, where the Russ and Lisa Show will be in progress. "The reason I'm doing this is really for all breastfeeding mothers, to let the public know we will not be deterred by negativity, even coming from a public voice," Hitchcock told Examiner. "If we can make a difference to one person this will be worth every ounce of effort myself and everyone helping me has put into it.

I so wish I could be there with you ladies! Good luck and have fun! I may just break the boycott of this station JUST to see what Lisa has to say about you ladies! I really hope she realizes that what she said was wrong, there is nothing wrong with breastfeeding and that breastfeeding mothers are not going to hide in a filthy, disgusting, NASTY bathroom for HER misguided comfort! :) There ARE laws that discuss breastfeeding.. too bad for Lisa those laws recognize the benefits of breastfeeding and protect mothers who choose to give their children the best :) Breastfeeding is normal and should be applauded not discussed in the manner that this poor, ignorant, misguided person chose to.
I am also deeply disappointed that the station and Lisa's superiors chose to let this situation ride instead of apologizing for her or forcing her to apologize on air!
Go Mommas!!!! :)
This picture is amazing! Thank you for posting it along with this article. Not until breastfeeding is normalized in the States will all women will have the right to choose how to feed their baby.
