Breastfeeding moms and advocates across the country are upset by an on air broadcast from Greenville, SC radio station WORD 106.3 on July 6, 2010.
During the Russ and Lisa Show broadcast, radio show host, Lisa told of her visit to Chick-Fil-A at Cherrydale Shopping Center in Greenville. Lisa was having lunch with her daughter and husband when Lisa's daugther pointed out another mom who was breastfeeding a baby in the restaurant. Lisa's account of what happened next has parents and breastfeeding advocates in an uproar.
Lisa's On Air Radio Show Comments
On air, Lisa explained how she told her daugther that the breastfeeding mom should go somewhere else to feed her baby. Next on the radio broadcast, Lisa commented further,
"I hate it. I just don’t understand why in a public place you want to – and she was covered by the baby’s head, you know her shirt was partially – I just, to me it was sorta just in such bad taste. And I know it’s just me, I guess, but is anybody out there as turned off by public breastfeeding as am I?"
The "breastfeeding in public" discussion continued during the boardcast with Lisa voicing her opposition to public nursing. A partial transcript of the conversation is available onlie for the public to read and decide their own view of Lisa's comments. Greenville area moms are discussing the issue on the Upstate SC MomslikeMe discussion boards.
A nationwide event, "Peaceful Protest for the Russ and Lisa Morning Show Nurse In" is scheduled for Monday, August 2, 2010 and a Greenville group of breastfeeding moms and other advocates of nursing will be assembling at the WORD 106.3 radio station.
