Ohio schools have received their report cards for the 2008-2009 school year. Most Miami Valley-area school retained the previous year’s rankings, however Kettering and Lebanon School Districts slipped this year.

The State of Ohio has developed a simple fact sheet and a comprehensive guide to help parents understand the Ohio Achievement Test (OAT) and the school rating system.

Deborah S. Delisle, the Ohio Superintendent of Public Instruction, noted in a press release that "educators continue to help students achieve at higher levels and, in many cases, surpass the rigorous academic standards that have been laid before them."

The 2008-2009 reports mark the tenth year that the State has fielded local report cards. The Department of Education notes that several areas have seen dramatic improvement since the inception of the system.

Each district’s report card is available through the Ohio Department of Education’s interactive Local Report Card (iLRC).  Parents can access their district's rating by simply typing in the first few letters of their child's school district.

I have a friend that works for Kettering who was on maternity leave for most of last year. I think their score will improve now that she is back to work.
