I
"I've weaned myself from my parents', my ex-wife's, and even Dr. Phil's parental expectations of me; I now provide my own" Joel Schwartzberg writes in his soon-to-be-published novel, The Forty-Year-Old Version.
He continues: "In short, it took divorce to make me a better dad."
Anybody who's ever tried writing about kids knows the ugly truth: it is very difficult to be honest about the kind of parent you are, and still look good. Maybe that is why I am always so relieved when I find an author who can be sincere about his or her parenting skills- consequences be damned. And, truth be told, Schwartzberg seems like the kind of father anybody would be lucky to have; not perfect, but one who thinks about how he approaches fatherhood. And what's even better: he does it without finger wagging.
If you read one book about parenting this year, let this one be it.
Release date is set for June, but if you don't want to wait (and why would you) you can order it now through Amazon.
