Swine Flu 101: For Kids
I am sure you have heard about the Swine Flu, or you might have heard it called H1N1. Sometimes when we over hear about something on the news or our parents talking it can be a little scary. Well, here is the truth for you to read yourself. You can go through the slide show at the bottom for more hints.
This type of flu is transmitted easily. That means you need to be smart, follow some important guidelines. The really neat thing is if you follow these small rules you will be healthier from other virus too. Maybe you will not get as many colds this year.
This is your responsibility, and I know every child can take charge of their health. There are four important things you can do.
1. Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze. (EVERY TIME)
Use a tissue if you can, but if you can not get to a tissue please cough into your shoulder or upper arm…NOT into your hands.
2. Wash your hands after sneezing and coughing, using soap and water. Hand sanitizer will also work.
3. Washing your hands can help prevent picking up the germs and passing them on to others.
4. Keep your hands away from your face. Do not touch your mouth or nose with your hands.
Your Mom, Dad and Doctor might want you to get a vaccine. This is a flu shot. I will not lie to you; you might feel a small pinch. You might need to go get a second shot two weeks later. Guess what, that little tiny pinch will make you a super person. You will have protection from the flu! Your body will be stronger, and so will you. Your Mom and Dad love you SO much they want you to be safe and protected. After you see the Doctor give Mom and Dad a hug and thank them for taking care of you, oh and you might ask for ice cream!
Four easy things you can do and a super person vaccine to keep you healthy. Take care and stay healthy,
