Holiday Writing Gifts- Children Can Be Your Family’s Holiday Historian
Holiday family stories children can write as gifts
Writing is the least expensive gift I know. It has other advantages, too: your child can write about his life, your life, whether it’s snowing or raining. They can create their writing gift at the kitchen table, at their desk even lying in bed. There are at least 500 kinds of writing gifts to be made. None of them are fattening, and all are a gift from the heart.
Writing Family Story Gifts:
When your child gives your family the gift of a story they are giving a gift of their time that is from their heart. Besides every family needs someone to preserve stories about their family; your child could be that person, they could become the family holiday historian.
Here are a few great writing ideas to help them get started:
Baby Stories: Your child can create a Baby Story book about the day they were born. What was the weather like? What time of day did they arrive? What important events were going on in the world that day? They could include the firsts; first time the rolled over, sat up, walked…
Biggest Family Disaster: One Christmas did the Dog eat the turkey. Have your child discover the greatest disaster.
Funny Stories: Your child can interview different members of the family and ask, “What is the funniest family story you remember?” Then write it up.
Heirloom Stories: Special pieces of family history that has been handed down from generation to generation and the stories behind your family heirlooms. Where did they come from? Why are they valuable? They might take a picture of them to include in the story.
Recipe Stories: Your child can create a recipe book filled with family member’s favorite recipes. (Three or Four Recipes would be enough for a child to write.) Complete with little illustrations.
