Children Deck the Outdoors with Tweet Treats

The last week before Christmas can be so very hard for children “I can’t wait” is an expression parents here often. For children this last week before Christmas can be the hardest week of the year to live through. The stress and strain of being good can make our young ones tense, nervous and excited. Couple that with all the celebrations and late nights and life can become tense this last week before Christmas. Keeping them busy will help with their stress.
Now that your children have helped you deck the halls and trim your walls, hung wreaths on the doors let them spread their cheer outdoors.
First, have your children select a tree in your yard to decorate. This will be their tree they will trim for the birds and squirrels. It would be wonderful if it was a tree that could be seen from inside.

- Cut a bagel in half and leave on the counter over night.
- The next day spread the stale bagel halves with peanut butter and coat with birdseed.
- Hang them on your outside tree with twine, string, or yarn that the birds can use for springtime nests.
- Next, hang ears of corn and apples for the squirrels and brightly colored bows to attract other wildlife. (You can use frozen corn)
- Finish your tree with Garlands of cereal.
- Taking the same twine, string, or yarn thread Cheerios, Fruit Loops or any other cereal with holes in the middle until you have a nice long garland to wrap around your tree.
Keep a camera handy to get great shots of neighborhood creatures. Not only will they keep your family entertained for weeks but your children will help the critters make it through the long, cold winter.
Enjoy watching your children treat wildlife to a tree of their own,
