ACT Today! family grant for Fall 2009
ACT Today! is accepting applications from families for their fall 2009 grants. All applications must be postmarked no later than October 26, 2009, to be considered. If you are awarded a grant you will be notified by email or phone, by December 31, 2009.
These grants can be used for things like speech therapy, ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis), even fencing needed to protect an autistic child. According to the ACT Today! website, the grants are based on the amount of money the organization raises throughout the year and the following criteria:
Completion of grant application – The application must be completed in its entirety to be reviewed. Partially completed applications will be kept on file for one year and additional information may be submitted to make the application complete within that timeframe.
Amount of grant request – Typical grants awarded range between $100 – $5,000.
Household income – While we have not set an income level cap, incomes below $100,000 per year are reviewed first.
Type of treatment requested – Our mission is to fund effective treatments and needed assessments.
Numbers of family members with ASD diagnosis – Applications from families with multiple children with ASDs are reviewed first.
Autism Speaks grants
There are grants up to $1000 available through Autism Speaks, as well. These grants are for urgent assistance during times of crisis. There are several requirements and families may apply for these grants at any time of the year.

Comments
I haven't heard of this organization, but this looks like a great way to help families dealing with autism. I'd be interested in seeing how much money has been raised by them in the past year that will go towards these grants. And for parents who don't qualify or receive grants for whatever reason, remember there are other resources available online like Rethink Autism that teach you how to effectively instruct your child with autism.
There is a grant available for families of children with autism in Virginia to get ABA treatment. The URL is www.autismgrant.org
