El Chupacabra is a cryptid first reportedly seen in Puerto Rico in recent history. Since being spotted on the island, sightings have been reported in Mexico, various states in the U.S., and eventually as far away as central Russia. Whether such an animal as el chupacabra really exists is a hotly contested point.
The name “chupacabra” comes from Spanish. “Chupa” means “to suck” and “cabra” means “goat.” The “goat sucker” has been reported to prey mostly on livestock such as goats, cattle, or sheep. Owners of the animals have found them dead and the blood drained out of the bodies. The only wound present on the carcasses has been a set of tooth marks, presumed to have been made by the legendary chupacabra. Reported eyewitnesses have described the creature usually as having scaly skin instead of the short hair of a wolf or coyote. The shape of the animal has been described as canine.
The History Channel’s series Monster Quest featured an investigation into the chupacabra phenomena. Carcasses of supposed chupacabras were sent to researchers for examination. The conclusion by scientists was the carcasses were of dogs or coyotes with a skin disease, giving them a strange appearance. What was not answered, and may never be answered, is whether these were the same animals who have been responsible for activities credited to el chupacabra.
Eyewitnesses of early chupacabra sightings have theories of their own about why the creature has not successfully been caught by humans. They have claimed chupacabras have the ability to be very elusive through their unique abilities (for example, they reportedly can change colors and leap great distances). Some have gone so far as to claim chupacabras are actually aliens, and so have not been captured for the same reasons other alien creatures have eluded authorities. Skeptics, of course, claim the reason a chupacabra has not been captured is that the creature simply does not exist, or is simply wild dogs or coyotes misidentified.
Some have drawn the obvious link between the tale of chupacabras and vampires. Both are elusive and drink their victims’ blood. Both have been called rubbish and pseudoscience by professional scientists. The chupacabra remains one of the most fascinating and well-known recent phenomena in cryptozoology.

Yez, me padre told me a story about this creature. Very scary stuff, no? It has been known to suck goats, dogs, gatos and even cans of Hormel chili dry!
Wait for a DNA analysis. I think its an ape : disabled baby left alone by its mother...
I heard somewhere that this creature had some sort of connection to that family in Mexico that has that werewolf hair disease. Could you comment on the connection?

Steve,
Your articles are very entertaining. I look forward to each new entry.
Have you ever heard of ghosts having "relations?"
After my boyfriend died two years, I have been "visited" by him several times always at night. Every time he appears, he is dressed differently. Weird! Last week he was dressed like a soccer player...but he never played soccer.
Your thoughts?
JJ
Yes. I have had the same problem with my "friend" too. Each time he appears he is dressed in Star War garb. Last time he was Yoda...really annoying he was.
Steve, can your website handle video clips? I think that would make a fabulous addition to these informative articles.
Have these creatures ever been responsible for killing a human child? I know of an unsolved murder that could have been the work of one of these or maybe a vampire.
No, I think you are making reference to the Jon Benet Ramsey. Although they found a lot of hair at the scene there never was no evidence of blood sucking.
Story has it that el beasto grande is 1/2 human, 1/3 pequenio (smal)zebra and 5/16 senior Sean Penn. Those unfortunate but lucky souls who gaze upon sucha hairy smelly monster have been know to say, "el Cialis no me gusta". Beware me amigos, the sorbet will melt in the background while the Chupanalga roams the wild Puerto Rican jungles but mostly the golf courses.
Hmm, I think that if the blood is actually "drained" from their bodies, then there is something supernatural going on which needs to be looked into. However, if the evidence is simply: "a bite mark on the neck", then most likely, vampire bats live nearby and the area should simply be examined for caves which could house the creatures.
