Kingman, Arizona- Local shadows of spirits, may roam the town
The cities rich, long history began with Lt. E. Beale , who was ordered by the U.S. War Department at around the time period of 1856-57, to build a federal wagon road.
In 1857 they started surveying for the road and in 1859 started to build the road. This was the beginning of the small (at that time) town of Kingman. Kingman was actually founded and declared later as a town in 1882. Indians inhabited the area prior to that. From that time on, the small town eventually grew into the city it is now.
Over the years, Kingman, Az. had its share of spooky tales about phantom ghosts, creepy haunted homes and shadow people roaming the streets.
Why not Kingman, arizona? It is an very old city with oodles of spooky and creepy history.
After all, the old miners from years past, use to mine and reside in that area.
An old military base was also established in Kingman at one time. The base however now, no longer exists.
Indians lived and were buried in the Kingman area on what they considered to be their sacred land. Land of which later on in the history of the town, homes were constructed on.
Why if you look at some of the older homes and businesses with-in the city, they are constructed of failing wood and old tin roofs, showing at least 80-100 years of age..
Many people lived , laughed ,cried created history then died in Kingman.
Including the late great, actor Andy Devine, although he had died else where.
One story though, tests man's imagination, is it real or not?
We would like to believe there is no such thing as "ghosts". It's just a figment of our over- active imagination. Perhaps we are just tired and seeing things. For one fleeting moment you see something move in the darkness of the Kingman desert night. You rub your eyes, blink , look again and it's not unsightly there anymore.
Yes, it's easy to create logical excuses for what you have just seen or felt.
What if though , by chance, you're not the only one?
What if many others also had the same experience as you, in the darkest hollow of the desert night?
Stockton Hill Road, now paved but at one time back in the 80's ,was just a dirt road. It runs throughout the city of Kingman.
Stories of dark eerie shadow people started to become common place.
Many living in the area or just passing through, had supposedly close encounters with dark shadow people while driving on Stockton Hill road. A bus load of unsuspecting people, innocently driving along the road saw the specter of a tall , dark shadow man, without any defining features, during bright daylight hours. They stopped the vehicle to let it pass on the road in front of them. Each person acknowledging and verifying to the other passengers ,what they had seen.
They exchanged their story with others, who in turn relayed experiences they also had encountered of the dark shadow people of Stockton Hill road.
Soon many stories came alive, of dark figures roaming various areas of Kingman.
Once an encounter with a multitude of witnesses came forward, others didn't feel so awkward disclosing their seemly unbelievable tales.
How could so many stories and encounters, be so a like and similar in nature be untrue? Always a tale of a dark faceless shadow person, appearing to some tall , to other spectators, shorter.. Could it be possible there are several different shadow people roaming the city of Kingman?
It's not that bizarre or obscure to believe, considering the town's rich and lengthy historical past.
Kingman is a warm, nostalgic, historic city and an absolute joy to visit. This particular "Examiner" loves it there, mainly because it's spectacular past is evident all through the town. From the train station, antique shops to the old hotels. The City still remains boasting the old "Route 66" signs in various areas.
If you happen to travel to the Kingman, Arizona area, really look at some older parts of the city.. Old hotels and homes are everywhere showing its long deplorable, yet incitive, productive and exciting history.
If by chance , you see a dark eerie shadow along the roadside, or on a patch of secluded desert land, pull over, take out a camera and try to capture it before it dissipates .
Some may need the factual proof, others just need the recognition of faith and belief.
Fact or fiction? You be the judge.
