Atlanta offers many opportunities for big-city kids to take horseback riding lessons.  If you are thinking about signing up, here are a few things you need to know:

1. Visit the facility before you commit and watch a lesson first-hand so you know what you're getting into. 
2. If you don't like the first barn you visit, visit several until you find one that you are comfortable with.  There are many types of barns from laid-back to highly regimented.  It is important to feel like you fit at the barn you choose.
3. Talk to your prospective trainer(s) and find out what they will expect of your child.  Only you can decide if they will be able to meet those expectations.
4. If possible, talk to other parents who have children who ride and ask them for the inside scoop. 
5. You should also know that girls get very serious about riding as they get older.  Once you start lessons, you may not be able to stop until they enroll in Vet school!  It is a sport that builds passion - and that's a GREAT thing for your child.
