Save the Navy Seals is a campaign to make sure that three Navy Seals face no punishment for their actions in apprehending an alleged terrorist.
Save the Navy Seals is one of these campaigns that seems emtirely valid on the face of it but then fails when the details are examined. The basic facts of the case are well explained by my colleague.
According to multiple reports, three United States Navy SEALs have been charged in connection with an alleged assault on a suspected terrorist. The three SEALs have requested trial by court-martial instead of non-judicial punishment (NJP).
That's the facts as they are. The allegations are that while arresting an alleged terrorist (supposedly responsible for the murders of those four Blackwater employees) they either punched the arrestee in the mouth or abdomen. The Save the Navy Seals campaign is arguing that they should not be tried for these actions. Heres Rep. Dan Burton arguing this point.

Human Events has posted a petition to free the Navy SEALs who’ve been hauled up for court martials after an infamous jihadi in Iraq (the same one who masterminded the ambush of Blackwater contractors whose bodies were burned and hung on a bridge in Fallujah) accused them of punching him in the stomach during a raid earlier this fall.
Sadly there's a desperate misunderstanding of the case going on here. Let us start from the beginning.
Allegations are made: that the Navy Seals broke the law while arresting this man.
This leads us to two further things. We would like to know whether they did in fact break the law. For having agents of the State being allowed to beat us up with no proof....well, that's actually one of the things that the American Revolution was all about in the first place.
But much, much more important than that is this. Allegations have been made. So, how do those Navy Seals clear their names? How do they show that the allegations are not true? Or that their actions were justifiable? We have a system to do this. It's called a trial.
Don't forget, the point of a trial (whether it's a civilian one or a military court martial) is not simply to identify the guilty (and then to punish them). It's also, and hugely more importantly so, to identify the innocent.
How can these Navy Seals show that they did not break the law when arresting this man? By us shouting that they should not be tried? No, absolutely not. Only by their being tried and then being found not guilty. That is the way that our society formally states: you did not do this, you did not break the law.
All of which is, of course, precisely why those Navy Seals have asked for a trial, so that they can show themselves to be not guilty. So to argue that they should not have their day in court, where they can prove their innocence, seems very odd indeed really. Give them what they have asked for, a trial so they can clear their names.

This entire situation demonstrates the glaring incompetence of the upper command in pursuing this case. The top brass are truly incompetent and have demonstrated how utterly disconnected they are from the troops in the field. If the allegations are true, a verbal warning at best is deserved. Gates better get off his ass and slap some of these pathetic generals around before this whole blows up in his face!
The government’s action in this case is not only criminal it treasonous, and I hold in the highest contempt the senior military officers who have allowed these charges to be presented against these brave men. These so called military leaders are not leaders, they are not even men, they have no honor they are puppets to a Marxist socialist regime. As a retired twenty year Navy veteran I am truly thankful I never served under such cowards, self serving, and despicable individuals.
I don’t know how many have seen the revolting and hideous pictures that so graphical illustrate the mutilation the men suffered at the hands of our enemies the Islamic Muslim terrorists. Think of the mother’s and fathers of these men and these picture of their sons seared into their memory. I would ask, what would do if this had been your father, brother, son or grandson?

The Navy Seals did nothing wrong. What kind of a signal is this sending to our troops,(Capture the enemy but please don't hurt them or you will be punished). What is wrong with our military leaders. I find it amazing that the terrorist can decapitate an American on television and we want to dishonor three highly trained Seals for giving one of the a bloody lip. I'm surprised our military takes prisoners anymore as we appear to want to give them the sunday school treatment, and then try them as citizens of the U.S. I say we drop the charges and let the Seals get back to work
This article is crap. The SEAL's don't arrest anybody - they are not law enforcement. The search, find and abduct terrorists. Terrorists are not enemy soldiers, criminals or law breakers - they are animal (rodents) that must be killed in order to be maintained.

The Navy Seals are a perfect example of PC going wild. We have not been allowed to win a war since WW 2 for fear of " offending" some third world Hellhole. It's not that our guys can't win, our gutless government won't let them. Either let us win or get the Hell out !! We can't afford this.
I feel that our finest are always under the highest scrutiny. I think to defend a terrorist over our own troops and Navy Seals is an unjustice in itself.
There is no proof of our Navy Seals doing any wrong. Terrorist are trained to cry abuse, even if there isn't any.
If there was a fat lip it could have been self inflicted. However, compare a fat lip to the grizzly crimes of murdereing 4 United States citizens and contractors-dragging them to their death, hanging them and burning their bodies. The scales of justice aren't even close to balancing.
I sincerely wish to see any proceedings and charges dropped against our 3 Navy Seals. I would also like to thank them for their service to our country and and defending our safety and freedom.

I also beleave the finest in the world seals, were doing there job. Let them have there day in court. For doing there job they are dammed if they do, and dammed if they don't,what kind of message is this sending our troops.Our brave seals don't need this put on them, period.
After reading about the charges against the Navy Seals, I truly believe these men were doing what they had to do. If the US Military were not there to stop these people without a conscience, where would we be? I don't understand why their actions were even questioned. We should let the military do their jobs regardless of what actions they find necessary to take. We should stop pampering foreign criminals who take American lives, who torture and mutilate citizens, and then whine when they're caught. I'm a Christian and a taxpayer; quite frankly I'm tired of even tolerating them. Just get rid of them--maybe then some of these tragedies would stop. Whatever the seals did, they shouldn't be questioned. Drop the so-called charges. Let them protect the US!!

These SEALs executed a capture ... they could have just executed that terrorist. However, that was not their mission; that was not in their character. After witnessing the burning bodies, the hanging bodies, what outraged individual would not have mutilated this terrorist when given the chance? The answer? These U.S. Navy SEALs.
These SEALs are honorable in standing for their bravery and skill in executing this mission. They do not deserve to face a court martial.
