Jaycee Lee Dugard today

Jaycee Lee Dugard was held in the above complex of tents and sheds for 18 years. Dugard was kidnapped when she was just 11 years old and held at this house in Antioch, CA, until just a few days ago.

Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped by Phillip Garrido and his wife and then raped over a period of time. She had two daughters by Garrido who were found with her when she was freed. The news about Dugard today is a little odd.

For questions are being asked about how confined Jaycee Lee actually was. There are reports that she did the graphic design work for the printing company that Garrido ran and that she not only met customers but had access to email and possibly other communications methods over the years.

Mr. Daughdrill was met by a polite young woman with blonde hair who Mr. Garrido had said was his daughter Allissa. “She was the design person; she did the art work; she was the genius,” Mr. Daughdrill said. Mr. Daughdrill said that he had regularly exchanged e-mail messages and even spoken on the phone with Allissa, but that she had never hinted at her real identity or at the secret of her life with Mr. Garrido. The woman, in fact, was Jaycee Dugard, the authorities say, and on Friday, Mr. Garrido, 58, and his wife, Nancy, 54, were arraigned on more than two dozen counts of kidnapping, rape, false imprisonment and other charges in connection with Ms. Dugard’s abduction in 1991 as she walked to a bus stop in South Lake Tahoe. She was 11.

However bizzare this might sound, a kidnap victim having access to the outside world but not using it to tell people of her plight, it is not in fact all that unusual among such victims. It even has a name, Stockholm Syndrome, where a kidnap victim starts to feel a sense of loyalty to those who have kidnapped them. There are various possible explanations of why this happens but that it sometimes does there is no doubt about.

Patty Hearst quite famously became loyal to the Symbionese Liberation Army after being kidnapped by them, just as one example.

It should also be remembered that Jaycee Lee Dugard had, by the time of her release, spent more than half her life (and if we think about that portion of her life that will be remembered, perhaps from age four or five, two thirds or so) with the kidnappers rather than her own family.  Looked at this way it would almost be unusual if she had not developed some bonds with them.

I'm glad I left California. I used to live in the city right next door to Antioch. It is so creepy to know that poor girl was there all the time. I can't believe the cops never figured it out.

I Google Mapped it yesterday and it's so obvious there were tarps and tents and debris back there. You'd think someone would have noticed such bizarre living conditions in a registered sex offender on probation.

I was a friend of hers in the fifth grade when she was kidnapped. She was the shyest, sweetest & prettiest girl in the class. I remember her being pretty close to her mom. It was so hard on her family when they took her away; they devastated her mother and drug her stepfather through hell. I am so happy that she is with her mom again, I think it is a great first step at healing what she can with her daughters and herself. I am sending all my strength and love to her family, and I hope people can focus on that in supporting what is right for her.

For God's sake DO NOT JUDGE THAT CHILD. In your mind, be 11, be raped over and over, be completely controlled, food, shelter, clothing, light, darkness, every aspect of your daily life. Now the monster gives you a baby, you have it without a doctor, at 14 years old, and your rapist is not only the father, but also controls if the baby eats, is warm, or even lives, then you know, at 14, that your baby will be raped, and on and on. Jaycee, her children, are the VICTIMS. People who think anything else are just as sick as the RAPIST.

Understanding Jaycee as she is now.

I don't claim to be any expert on this but from previous reading I understand the basics.

After overcoming her first complete shock at the kidnap, an 11 year old Jaycee will have become compliant in days.

In regular life most 11 year old kids will defer to what they consider sensible adult instruction. It's what keeps control of classes at school.

Jaycee will have become compliant within days because she will have learnt that that was how she could assuage their anger/aggression/violence etc. etc. She will have realised that if she complied with their wishes and instruction they wouldn't shout at her or hit her.

And so she did as they said while she waited for someone to come to her resue..............

But no-one came.....and all she knew was that if she did as they asked they might even buy her a coke and creme cake....they would even talk to her friendly...

    A year or two later....????

BUT NEVER FORGET SHE IS A VICTIM

Don't forget that she had no education or instruction after age 11 other than what they told her. They could have told her that her other family was long dead and gone. We have no idea until more info comes out - which according to Elizabeth Smart and her dad, who have some experience with this - they shouldn't push her too much to tell the whole story at first. It's horrifying the sheer length of time of her ordeal. The only worse I've heard of is that case in Austria of a man imprisioning his own daughter from age 16 to 42 and having 5 children with her.

Now, we became to know story how she was kidnapped nad held in sheds so long. There are a lot of comments, analysis and suggestion.I am not expert but in my understanding, the little Jaycee lee who was innocent and obedient to adult at that age should have brain washed and devoted to capture giving her senseless care and safe in compeletely new dark world. When talking in this case, we understand that she might have safe if she did whatever she was told.During the long time, she became to concern for safety dignity and morality. Not only her life there were two other lives she has to think about that. But whatever situation held her so long, the senseless was capture and law enforncement's weakness. Anyway past is gone, now left the story behind and important to do is how she goes forward in life and how socity need go with her in life. My support and pray goes to her and her family along with.

It's hard to believe that the probation officer went to this creeps home and never took the time to inspect the sheds and tents! The probation officer should be fired for incompetence! It's also hard to believe that neighbors didn't hear two small children making noise and wonder whose children they were. How about babies who are sick crying at night? Wouldn't SOMEONE have wondered about that? This whole thing is sick. What about Garrido's wife? She allowed her husband to have sex with an 11year old girl?? How twisted is that? Have we regressed that far back into medieval times?

I think its absolutely ridiculous for anyone to think she stayed because she wanted to, at 11 she could have easily been brainwashed, and the perp knew this, that's why he chose her at that age. She was old enough for what he wanted, but not old enough to put up a fight or try to run away. By the time she was old enough to run she had the kids by him.

Apparently, neighbors did notice and even called the police about people living in tents in the backyard but the sheriff never even entered his home or backyard. Our law enforcement is greatly at fault.
