Jaycee Lee Dugard

Jaycee Lee Dugard has turned herself in to the police almost 20 years after she disappeared.

Or at least, a woman claiming to be the long missing Jaycee Lee Dugard has appeared at a police station in the Bay Area. Dugard's family have spoken to her and and believe that she is indeed Jaycee Lee.

Jaycee Lee Dugard was kidnapped from her South Lake Tahoe home way back in 1991, as she walked to the bus stop. As the FBI puts it:

Jaycee Lee Dugard was last seen as she walked to her bus stop in South Lake Tahoe, California, on June 10, 1991. It has been claimed that she was abducted by two individuals, a male and a female) who were driving a car. However, extensive law enforcement investigations since the time of her disappearance have neither identified any abductors nor revealed the location of the victim.

Further details are available at The Charley Project. Nothing has been seen or heard of Jaycee Lee Dugard since her abduction and it has generally been assumed that she was dead.

If this really is Jaycee Lee Dugard returned then it will be one of the most astonishing returns from a kidnap ever seen. Where has she been all these years? Who took her? Why? And why was she released now?

There will be a press conference on this issue later today but at present, the police, the family and the FBI all think that there is a good possibility that this really is Jaycee Lee Dugard back.

As Jaycee Lee's stepfather, who heard her screams while she was being abducted, said:

It's an absolute miracle if it is her. Can you imagine this after 18 years?

Here's hoping at least.

It's her, and two people have been arrested.

That is a miracle! It's almost hard to believe after 18 years! No words can explain how wonderful that is! That just proves how great our God can be! It's amazing! I just wanted to let her and her family know, that I am very happy for you, and I wish the best!
